Bulova – American innovation since 1875

Since 1875, Bulova has created watches at the intersection of classic design and technological innovation. Founded in New York, the brand has, for generations, left its mark on the watch industry with new production methods, groundbreaking movements and watches that have taken part in historic missions.

These are watches with a distinct American identity—designed for those who value precision, character and a story that reaches far beyond the wrist.

The story of Bulova

Bulova was founded in 1875, when Joseph Bulova opened a small watch and jewellery shop on Maiden Lane in New York. His ambition was to produce watches that combined quality, precision and modern manufacturing.

In 1912, Bulova established a factory in Biel, Switzerland, focused on producing components for wristwatches. This marked the beginning of a period in which the company grew into one of America’s best-known watch brands.

Throughout the 20th century, Bulova became known for thinking differently. The brand was among the pioneers of standardised production and, in 1960, launched Accutron—the world’s first fully electronic watch based on tuning-fork technology. Its high precision made the technology of interest to, among others, the US space programme.

In 1971, a Bulova chronograph was worn on the surface of the Moon during the Apollo 15 mission. That story lives on today in the Lunar Pilot collection.

Precision as a driving force

Precision has always been central to Bulova’s identity. From early mechanical watches and Accutron’s distinctive tuning-fork movement to modern automatic models and advanced quartz technology, Bulova has continually challenged how a watch can be engineered.

A clear example is Precisionist technology. It uses a high-frequency quartz movement that delivers significantly higher accuracy than a traditional quartz watch, while also creating an unusually smooth sweep of the seconds hand.

The result is watches where the technology does not only work beneath the dial, but becomes a visible part of the experience.

A history full of breakthroughs

Bulova’s story is not only about watches. The brand has also left its mark on American culture, aviation, sport, advertising and space exploration.

From the collaboration with aviation pioneer Charles Lindbergh and the development of precision technology for use in the space programme to some of the earliest radio and television commercials, Bulova has always had the courage to take new paths.

That approach lives on in the words “Bold at Heart”. It is the idea of combining history and craftsmanship with a design that dares to have presence and stand out.

Bulova collections

From maritime sports watches and elegant automatic watches to advanced quartz movements and reinterpretations of historic models. Bulova’s collections span a wide range, yet share the same focus on precision, innovation and distinctive design.

Marine Star

Marine Star is Bulova’s maritime collection. The watches combine a sporty look with robust materials, clear legibility and water resistance, making them well suited to life on the water as well as an active everyday life.

The collection includes both automatic models and quartz watches, and is an obvious choice for those who want a solid, versatile watch with a distinctive design.

Lunar Pilot

Lunar Pilot is based on the Bulova chronograph that was worn on the Moon during the Apollo 15 mission in 1971.

The modern models carry forward the original’s instrument-inspired design and combine it with Bulova’s high-precision quartz movements. It is a watch with a truly special connection to the history of space exploration—created for those who appreciate engineering, function and a great story.

Precisionist

Precisionist shows Bulova at its most technological. The collection’s high-frequency quartz movements are developed with a focus on extraordinary accuracy and are recognised by the smooth sweep of the seconds hand.

The design is often bold and detailed, making Precisionist an obvious choice for those who want modern technology and a watch with a strong presence on the wrist.

Surveyor

Surveyor combines classic watch design with a modern expression. The collection primarily features automatic watches with elegant proportions, refined dials and details that allow the mechanical construction to stand out.

These are versatile watches that work naturally for both everyday wear and more formal occasions.

Super Seville

Super Seville reinterprets a distinctive Bulova design from the 1970s. The slightly angular, TV-shaped case and integrated bracelet give the watch a clear retro look, while the Precisionist movement adds modern accuracy.

The collection is for those who want a watch with vintage character, bold lines and technology that belongs to the present day.
