Casio G-SHOCK MR-G – Japanese craftsmanship without compromise

MR-G is the flagship of the G-SHOCK universe. Here, the brand’s uncompromising toughness meets advanced Japanese metalworking, exclusive materials and a finish normally associated with traditional luxury watchmaking.

This is G-SHOCK in its most refined form. Created for those who want the iconic strength and technology, but with a more exclusive expression and a special attention to detail.

The story of MR-G

The first MR-G was launched in 1996. The goal was to bring G-SHOCK’s shock-resistant construction into a watch made of metal without losing the toughness that had defined the brand since 1983.

The first model, MRG-100, marked the beginning of a collection in which new materials, precision machining and advanced constructions have continuously pushed the boundaries of what a G-SHOCK can be.

In 1997, the series introduced models with a titanium case and bracelet. This was followed by, among other things, analogue models, radio-controlled timekeeping, solar power and professional dive watches.

Today, MR-G is produced on Casio’s Premium Production Line in Yamagata, Japan. Here, modern production technology is combined with manual craftsmanship and a Japanese approach to precision.

Where strength meets craftsmanship

An MR-G must not only be strong. The construction must also allow for precise shapes, sharp edges and refined surfaces.

That is why cases and bezels often consist of many separate components. Small shock-absorbing elements are placed between the parts so the watch can absorb impacts from different directions. At the same time, the construction makes it possible to polish and finish each component before the watch is assembled.

Several models are finished with Sallaz polishing, which creates flat, mirror-like surfaces without blurring the metal’s sharp lines. The process requires extensive experience and is carried out by hand by specialised craftsmen.

The result is a watch where toughness and finish are not opposites, but two parts of the same design.

Materials engineered to last

Titanium plays a central role in MR-G. The material is lighter than stainless steel, resistant to corrosion and comfortable to wear, even when the watch has a substantial construction.

On selected models, Casio uses advanced Japanese titanium alloys such as Ti64 and DAT55G, as well as the exceptionally hard COBARION. The materials are chosen according to the function of each component, making it possible to combine low weight with high strength and a beautiful surface finish.

DLC coatings and special hardening processes help protect the metal against scratches and wear. Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment also contributes to high clarity and long-lasting durability.

This is materials technology with a clear purpose: the watch must retain both its strength and its appearance through many years of use.

Tradition in a modern construction

MR-G draws inspiration from Japanese history, architecture and craftsmanship. Colours, patterns and surfaces may reference, among other things, samurai armour, traditional swords, historic colour tones and Japanese wood joinery.

The inspiration does not become mere decoration. It is integrated into the watch’s construction, choice of materials and finish, giving the models a cultural depth that contrasts with the advanced technology.

This is modern Japanese watchmaking with respect for tradition.

Advanced technology for everyday use

Beneath the detailed surfaces is the technology that defines G-SHOCK. Features vary between models, but may include Tough Solar, radio-controlled timekeeping via Multiband 6 and Bluetooth connectivity to a smartphone.

Via the CASIO WATCHES app, compatible models can, among other things, adjust the time automatically, manage world time and make it easier to operate the watch’s functions.

The technology works discreetly in the background, so the watch remains accurate and ready to use—both in everyday life and when travelling.

The MR-G collections

MR-G reinterprets several of G-SHOCK’s most iconic design lines. From classic analogue models and the original square digital watch to the modern 2100 shape and professional Frogman dive watches.

MRG-B2000 and MRG-B1000

MRG-B2000 and MRG-B1000 represent the classic analogue MR-G. The watches feature a powerful, three-dimensional design, where inspiration from Japanese aesthetics is combined with advanced engineering and precise metalworking.

The many details and separate components give the models a strong presence on the wrist. An obvious choice for those who want an analogue G-SHOCK with both technical depth and an exclusive character.

MRG-B2100

MRG-B2100 brings G-SHOCK’s popular octagonal design into the MR-G collection. The familiar shape is built from precision-made metal parts, while the detailed dial on several models is inspired by traditional Japanese kigumi wood joinery.

The result is a slimmer, more understated MR-G, where simplicity at a distance reveals impressive complexity up close.

MRG-B5000

MRG-B5000 is based on the first G-SHOCK, the DW-5000C from 1983. The square digital design is preserved, but the case and bezel have been re-engineered with numerous separate metal parts, shock-absorbing elements and meticulously polished surfaces.

It is the original G-SHOCK form executed with some of Casio’s most advanced materials and manufacturing techniques. A digital icon in its most exclusive edition.

MRG-BF1000 Frogman

MRG-BF1000 brings Frogman’s professional diving identity into the MR-G series. The distinctive asymmetrical construction is executed in titanium and developed to combine shock resistance with ISO-certified water protection for diving to 200 metres.

The watch combines professional functions with the detailed finish and material quality that define MR-G. It is the collection’s maritime tool watch—created without compromise between function, strength and craftsmanship.
