Frederique Constant – classic watchmaking with a modern mindset

Frederique Constant creates Swiss watches with a clear goal: to make fine watchmaking accessible to more people.

The look is classic and elegant, yet behind the traditional lines is a modern company with in-house movements, technical innovation, and a deep love of mechanical complications.

These are watches for those who appreciate the fine details—without the need to shout about them.

The story of Frederique Constant

Frederique Constant was founded in 1988 by the Dutch couple Aletta and Peter Stas. They shared a passion for classic watches and began developing their own collection with the ambition of combining Swiss quality, elegant design, and sensible prices.

After four years of work, the first collection was launched in 1992. The watches were fitted with Swiss movements and assembled by a watchmaker in Geneva.

In 1994, Frederique Constant introduced its first Heart Beat watch. An opening in the dial offered an unobstructed view of the mechanical movement’s balance wheel, making it possible to see the heart of the watch at work. The design quickly became one of the brand’s most distinctive signatures.

Since then, Frederique Constant has grown from a good idea between two passionate people into an international watch manufacturer with its own manufacture in Geneva.

Luxury that more people can enjoy

Frederique Constant’s core belief is that Swiss watchmaking should not be reserved for a small circle of collectors. Beautiful materials, mechanical movements, and classic complications should be experienced by more people.

This does not mean compromising on the details. Each watch is developed with a focus on three fundamental values: design, quality, and innovation.

The result is watches that feel exclusive, yet are still made to be worn and used.

From the first sketch to the finished watch

In 2004, Frederique Constant presented its first in-house movement, thereby earning the right to call itself a true manufacture.

Today, much of the work is carried out at the company’s manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates near Geneva. This is where the watches are developed, assembled, and inspected, and where the brand’s own Manufacture movements are also produced.

Frederique Constant works with everything from classic automatic movements to advanced complications such as worldtimers, flyback chronographs, perpetual calendars, and tourbillons.

It is traditional watchmaking craftsmanship, but with a curiosity that continually brings new ideas.

A look inside the mechanics

Since 1994, the Heart Beat design has been an important part of Frederique Constant’s identity.

Through an opening in the dial, you can see the balance wheel’s constant motion. The feature is not necessary for telling the time, but it makes the mechanical movement come alive and visible.

It is a small detail that says a great deal about Frederique Constant: classic from a distance, but full of life when you look closer.

Frederique Constant collections

The collections range from simple, classic watches to modern sports watches and models featuring some of the most demanding complications in traditional watchmaking.

Classics

Classics is Frederique Constant in its most traditional form. The collection is defined by harmonious proportions, refined dials, and a timeless expression.

Here you will find everything from simple automatic models to moon phases, chronographs, and the distinctive Heart Beat watches. These are elegant watches that naturally suit both everyday wear and more formal occasions.

Highlife

Highlife shows the brand from a more modern and sporty side. The collection features a cohesive design in which the case and strap or bracelet blend seamlessly together.

The integrated, interchangeable strap system makes it easy to change the watch’s look without tools. Several models also feature a discreet globe motif on the dial, which has become a signature of the collection.

Highlife is available in both simple automatic versions and models featuring, among other things, a chronograph, worldtimer, and perpetual calendar.

Manufacture

The Manufacture collection showcases Frederique Constant’s technical expertise. The watches are equipped with movements that the brand itself has developed, produced, and assembled in Geneva.

The collection includes both classic three-hand watches and advanced models with moon phase, big date, worldtimer, flyback chronograph, perpetual calendar, and tourbillon.

Despite the complex movements, the design is kept clean and balanced. The mechanics are allowed to impress without overpowering the rest of the watch.

Classics Art Déco

Classics Art Déco is inspired by the elegant design language of the 1920s and 1930s. The oval and angular cases give the collection a feminine and distinctive expression, while the fine dial details underline the connection to the period’s design.

These are jewellery-inspired watches with a classic style that is not tied to any specific occasion.

Tradition and innovation in balance

Frederique Constant is a relatively young name in the Swiss watch world, but the brand works with techniques and complications built on centuries of watchmaking tradition.

This provides the freedom both to respect the classic and to think anew. From the Heart Beat opening to in-house tourbillon and perpetual calendar movements, Frederique Constant has shown that advanced watchmaking does not have to be out of reach.

These watches are made for people who want to get closer to the mechanics and the pleasure of a well-crafted timepiece.
