A SHORT HISTORY

ORIS was founded in 1904 in the Swiss town of Hölstein by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian. From the very beginning, the brand focused on creating high-quality mechanical watches that were both functional and affordable — a philosophy that still defines ORIS today.

Over the decades, ORIS became known for its innovation in pilot’s watches, diving instruments, and precision timekeeping. Unlike many Swiss brands, ORIS has remained independent and committed solely to mechanical watchmaking — refusing to follow trends toward smartwatches or quartz.

In the 21st century, ORIS continues to lead with purpose, sustainability, and technical innovation, including the development of its in-house Calibre 400 movement. Still based in Hölstein, ORIS remains true to its original mission: to make beautiful, reliable, and meaningful watches — and to make people smile.

MAKE PEOPLE SMILE – THE ORIS WAY

ORIS is a Swiss watch brand driven by a clear and heartfelt purpose: to make people smile.
Every timepiece from ORIS is designed with this mission in mind — to bring joy. Whether it’s the satisfying feel of a mechanical movement, the thoughtful details in the design, or the meaningful story behind a limited edition, ORIS watches are made to inspire connection, individuality, and a better world.

There is something undeniably magical about a mechanical watch. It doesn’t rely on batteries. It doesn’t make noise. It simply ticks — quietly, reliably, beautifully. And it keeps ticking for generations. That’s the charm of ORIS: genuine Swiss craftsmanship that connects people to the rhythm of time.

The joy of wearing an ORIS becomes even greater when there’s a deeper meaning behind it. That’s why ORIS is committed to sustainability and positive change. Through the brand’s CHANGE FOR THE BETTER program, ORIS supports global environmental causes such as coral restoration, ocean conservation, and access to clean water.

Even the packaging reflects this commitment — many ORIS watch boxes are made from recycled materials, proving that great design can also be good for the planet.

From the nostalgic elegance of the DIVERS SIXTY-FIVE to the contemporary innovation of the PROPILOT X CALIBRE 400, every ORIS model is engineered to last — and to delight those who wear it.

DESIGN AT THE INTERSECTION OF WATCHES AND JEWELRY

BIG CROWN POINTER DATE CALIBRE 403
ORIS reimagines one of its most iconic timepieces with the launch of the new Big Crown Pointer Date Calibre 403. This updated model blends vintage aviation heritage with contemporary design and modern mechanics, resulting in a watch that feels both timeless and refreshingly current.

The new edition is available with dial options in sage green or terracotta, adding warmth and personality to the classic silhouette. It comes paired with either a sustainable brown deer-leather strap or a polished stainless steel bracelet, offering versatility and comfort.

Housed in a refined 40 mm stainless steel case, the watch retains its signature oversized crown and pointer date function – a design first introduced by ORIS back in 1938. At the core is the in-house Calibre 403, a highly accurate, anti-magnetic movement offering an impressive five-day power reserve. The addition of a sub-seconds dial at 6 o’clock adds a subtle yet sophisticated touch to the overall layout.

Presented at Watches & Wonders 2025, this release marks another milestone in ORIS’s ongoing commitment to independent Swiss watchmaking, mechanical excellence, and purpose-driven design. With a 10-year warranty (when registered with MyOris) and a design built to last, the Big Crown Pointer Date Calibre 403 is made to be worn, loved – and to make people smile.

ORIS FACTORY HÖLSTEIN

Tucked away in the peaceful village of Hölstein, Switzerland, the Oris factory is more than just a place of production — it’s the beating heart of the brand’s independent spirit and mechanical expertise. Since its founding in 1904, Oris has remained rooted in this small community, combining traditional craftsmanship with forward-thinking innovation.

Unlike many brands that outsource parts of their production, Oris continues to assemble and test its mechanical timepieces in-house at its Hölstein headquarters. This commitment to mechanical watchmaking — and to staying independent — defines everything they do. The company has stayed true to its roots, crafting high-quality, functional watches with a focus on real-world purpose and precision.
